Mentally broken. Retreated to the forest from a ruined homeland. Returned to his rock tending, though on a grander scale. Talks to them and believes on some level that they are his deceased herdmates and family. Body | Summer | Winter | Rut
Awe, both are really pretty plants; I can see her working with either of them, honestly. Even though the corpse lily has that smell about it.
As far as that quote goes, I like it. I find it funny how it happened to fit into what he was thinking. Gotta love how those types of things just happen.
"Well, I woke up with a flower on my head." The giant wore the crooked grin that she so often had on her face around the unicorn. She flicked her ear and turned her head so he could see the poppy tucked there.

"Sorry for those protection circles... I thought that they would help?" The giant shook her head tiredly. She hadn't had much sleep the past few days and her face showed it slightly. "I truly have no business messing with those things any more. There is nothing worth keeping out in this forest any way." At least not something that would be deterred by a few lines in the dirt. "I can take them down if you wish."

"What do they protect against, exactly?" How strong is your magic? he asked quietly from where he was curled up in a ball, "'Cause whatever it is...doesn't like me too much. Which basically means it's good."
"Demons, wendigos, witches.... not quite sure anymore." The expression on her face changes to shock at what he says next. "It's not supposed to do that! I'm pretty sure you're not a demon. She made a disgusted noise. "I should have expected something like this to happen. Magic and I mix like cesium and water. I can't even make a rock float properly. At least not with out painful tingling and possibly braining myself with it."

He snorted at her comment about magic. He sent a rock skipping over toward her, showing off, but it lacked any of the flaunt he usually carried. The unicorn's voice shifted as he spoke up, sounding tired, "I'm not a demon, far from it. I can't associate with dark magic, or anything warding it away without it hurting me. Which means it's strong, which means there's some loophole in it that I could technically work with if I was strong enough to work with it. But..." he trailed off, shrugging.
She eyed the skipped stone warily for a moment. She didn't meet his eyes while he spoke. His words proved that she made things worse by trying to help. The giant had never meant to hurt him."I see. I am truly sorry Reate. I did not mean... to keep you from your circles or to hurt you." If you do wrong you'd better put it right girl. "I swear to you that I'll have every line and shape erased by morning. I hope you can forgive me for this." She wasn't going to hold her breath, he had every right not to. She'd lost great friends over less then this.

Reate tilted his head, eying her as she spoke. The thought of not forgiving her hadn't even crossed his mind. He was upset, yes, but not necessarily at her. By this point his mind had calmed to the extent of not really caring anymore. At least, not as much as he had been. He got to his hooves and slowly ambled over to her, reaching up to touch his nose to her cheek. He held it for a brief moment before draping his long neck across hers. "Why wouldn't I forgive you?"
Lav takes a seat next to The Unicorn after her earlier subject of interest bids his abrupt adieu to them both. Her head is hot, from a recent romp with him. Her coat is looking unruly and unkempt. This, on top of Judaius' departure leaves her somewhat embarrassed and it shows on her face. "N-nice to meet you." She says timidly. Her gaze stays fixed on The Unicorns glorious tail. Want.
"Nice to meet you too," Reate replied with a casual flick of his tail. He didn't know what the other guy's problem was, but he didn't concern himself with it. He tilted his head at her, but reached out to sniff the curious feathers on her head. They weren't....feathers, were they? No. Huh. "I'm Reate. What's your name?"
As The Unicorn reaches out to sniff the floral sprigs, she lowers her head so he gets an extra good sniff. The sprigs reach out to his snout, as if they had a mind of their own. "You can call me Lavender." The doe tiredly responds as she gets more comfortable and rests her head.
"Well... Her head lifts. The compliment brings a blush to her face. "Almost as pretty as your tail." A hint of envy in her tone. She eyes it again for some time before grooming her disheveled coat.
Have to call it a night, but you can continue if you wish.

"Equally as pretty," he remarked with a sideways smile, flicking the tip of his tail at her. He went silent to watch her groom, subconsciously starting to smooth the fur down on his own pelt. He felt like helping, but he didn't know if she wanted him to...plus it might have been out of line somewhere since they had just met and all...he usually had to feel rather comfortable with them before grooming them.
Yeah I'd rather be called Chocolate... this username is just too long and I just...my account is just too cluttered so I've been using this. <.> I track...too many things.
Weird question because it's two am and I get a little too philosophical at two am.
Why is Reate called a unicorn when he actually has two horns? Isn't he technically a bihorn, duohorn, or some other combination of root words? o:
P.S. Aside from that nomenclature bit which is confusing me to no end (largely because it's two am), he's gorgeous. Maybe I take words too literally. xD No offense meant, etcetc, just legitimately interested as to why he'd consider himself that. c:

If you want to get down to the nitty-gritty technical stuff, then yes, due to the two horns he would be considered a 'bicorn'. I remember looking up those guys a long time ago, but they never crossed my mind when I was originally designing Reate. He was originally a character that was meant to fill the void another character left as well as be something completely new for me to work with. I've never had a unicorn-esque character before. I didn't want to do something like the classic unicorn- nothing personally against them- so I gave him a deer body as well as add a couple of things I've always wanted on characters but they never seemed to be right, like the whiskers and long fluffy tail. I settled on two spiraling horns simply because I like spirals, and how they looked on his head.
While that was more or less an 'oops' on my part, it does bring something interesting to the table. When I was thinking of a response to you, I was also thinking of if there was something else at play, such as a character identity crisis- for example. It explains why Reate always seems so adamant he is indeed a 'unicorn'. Maybe there's more to that than meets the eye. That helps me solidify his story. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, Hum.
Hmm, for the record the Asian form of 'unicorn' actually has a great deal more stag-like appearance. They referred to them as 'Kirin' and they were often depicted with more than one horn. wikipedia ftw >.<;
