it was the rain

It was the rain that calms him down.
No one, not even himself knew exactly why...
... though.. it had something to do with memories... memories that never should be forgotten.
Jack had his eyes closed, sat on the altar... like usual.
But unlike usual.. a crown of antlers on his head. Inbetween the tines..... three floating flames glowing in the dark. Three flames... three memories.
The goggles that shaded his eyes from the light of the day where up on his forehead now. No use to wear them now.
The white stag's ears twitched as the sound of shy steps mixed up with the rain's whisper.
He opened his eyes, looked down to the little, human faced doe in front of him.
The corners of his mouth twitched up into a little, crooked smile, before he closed his eyes again.
Jane.
"Hallo Schwesterlein..."
('Hello little sister...')
The doe didn't say anything, just smiled as well... her goggles where place on her forehead, like his. Her eyes where back to 'normal' as well... she had to protect them from the bright light.
But... not today...
She climbed up on tha altar as well.
She knew he wouldn't mind.
Not today...
It was the rain.
They sat quietly for a while.
There was no need to talk. They both could feel it.
They both could feel the connection to their own world... could hear the noises, smell the smells of this other world behind the forest rain.
It was strong... strong enough to prove this pretty world as a lie.
They don't belong here.
Jane knew this as well.
The past days she had hidden from her 'brother'... she knew they both where able to leave this place now... for which ever reasons it was possible now, though...
She didn't want to.
She didn't want to leave this wonderful peaceful place... no.
But then, as the impressions of the other world grew stronger.... she finally realized what Jack told her long before.
They didn't belong here.
They where humans, not deer.
And this place... was just another prison.
She put her head against his site, nuzzled the wet, white fur.
The rain was cold... but... somehow this cold felt not treatening... it didn't even felt... real.
... like this life didn't feel real.
It took her those past days to finally accept this...
But there was still the fear of him.
...how he would react...
She had hidden from him a long time now... and... surely... he wouldn't be happy about that.
Then she got to know that he also talked to Jergens...
... many reasons that could bring his mood down.
She knew he loved her. But she also knew...
... well...
He was he after all.
...he couldn't help it...
... couldn't controll...
Finally the rain came.
And the rain encouraged her to seek him out again.
It was the rain that... tames him.
She felt the breath of the stag next to her.
Yes...she was ready now to leave this place.
And he, of course, had it been for longer now.
The question was just... when will they leave?
"Sie haben uns getrennt... auf.... auf der anderen Seite... meine ich."
('They seperated us... on... on the other site... I mean.') His eyes where still closed as he spoke to her.
She nodded silently. She knew what he ment.
He didn't only want to break free from this prison. He also wanted to break free from... this other one... from the Institute.
He already had explained her... full of excitement... that they wheren't in the high-security wing anymore. They where now in building B. The hospital wing.
A perfect chance for escape...
... but only if the two of them where together. He needed her strenght. She needed his speed.
She was affraid of all this.
... but... she wanted to be free, too.
Jane swallowed "Das ist... ein Problem?" ('That's... a problem?")
She could hear him giggling.
"Nein... " ('No...')
She nodded again. Well... then.
"Möchtest... du dich noch von jemandem verabschieden...?" ('Do you want... to say good by to anyone...?')
He snorted. She could feel his body tenseing.
"Nein. Da ist niemand..." ('No. There is no one...')
She could feel it. There... was something.
What about that... dragon doe... Illrose...? She knew... she had left the forest some days ago.
But she also knew... that he didn't came to tell her good bye.
She always thought... that he somehow respected her.
Jane really wondered... what happened.
She didn't dare to ask, though.
And then... the little fawn he cared so much for...?
The doe just nodded.
"Willst du dich noch von jemandem verabschieden...?"
('Do you want to say good bye to anyone...?')
Now it was her, who tensed up.
[i]"N... nein." ('N...no')
Jack chuckled.
"Du bist eine schlechte lügnerin, ja?"
('You are a bad liar, yes?')
She swallowed.
... but he stayed calm. Didn't even ask any further question, of who that might could be...
...it was the rain.
Jack opened his eyes again.
"Gut. Hier ist der plan..."
('Fine. This is the plan...')
