cant play ...microsoft visual C++ runtime error?

idk how much support i can get here and i will do a bit of digging. but after just now installing the game, i get an error after being on for a few seconds. its a windows that says at the top "microsoft visual C++ runtime error" and one problem too is the error box has no text, not even on the button that says "okay" to close it. so im not entirely sure what the error is. i assume a missing .dll file, as thats common for old games?

has anyone else had errors when trying to play on a new PC in 2020? my PC is new, a model that came out very recently. im using windows 10 as well. i ran in compatibility mode and as admin and had no luck with that. im a little stumped because the error box is blank so any help is appreciated!

I know when I installed it I

I know when I installed it I had to go change a setting to allow the computer to play old games, to make it compatible. I forget what I did though.

i assume you probably mean

i assume you probably mean the compatibility mode? i did try that by setting it to windows 7 but sadly it did not work. i will try some of the other choices though and see it they work however since i did only try one.

Maybe the C++ downloaded is

Maybe the C++ downloaded is too new for the game? Might need C++ '05 or '08 maybe?

And that was my first accidental double post!

i will check what i have

i will check what i have installed. i have played loads of old PC games on my new PC and have definitely downloaded many before. the big issue is the error message i get doesnt even have any text lol, or else i would probably have this issue solved! i did try XP for compatibility mode but sadly changed nothing.

the thing is it does launch and plays, so im surprised i get the error *after* i started playing instead o when i try to launch the game..

i checked to make sure and i

i checked to make sure and i do in fact have like every version of microsoft's visual C++ runtime library. to be clear heres an image of what is installed. https://imgur.com/5nOcDjW if anyone knows if i am actually missing one the TEF requires let me know! (fyi for those technically unaware having multiple installed does not cause an issue)

also here is a screenshot of the error message too, which shows no text for the error. https://imgur.com/s9v8dtq

Might be the DirectPlay issue

Might be the DirectPlay issue that a lot of people with Windows 10 have. Try going to "Turn Windows features on or off" (if you can't find it from the windows search bar, go to control panel, programs and features, then you should find the option there) and under "Legacy Components" make sure DirectPlay is checked, then press ok

i hadnt heard of 'directplay'

i hadnt heard of 'directplay' but sadly it does seem to be on already. though for the sake of it, i turned it off to see what would happen. oddly, it ran. i did not get the error after a few seconds at all but when i did launch i had a pop up saying i needed to install/run directplay. i skipped it and it still ran fine, no errors. and sure enough when i turned it back on i got the error only a few seconds in like before.

did this a few times and got the same results. if you are in fact saying directplay should be *on*.... then im getting the idea that theres some kinda conflict happening with directplay and something with the microsoft visual c++ library (like, it cant find something it is looking for?). tho i am very confused as to why is plays without it even though it asks for me to enable it.

while i can play the game, i cannot connect online and i think it has to do with directplay not being used (i could see it connecting when my game was breifly open with directplay on, before it crashes) so i will look into this directplay thing. and obviously i cannot leave directplay off too as i need it for other things. maybe i need to update my version of directx or install an old version? hopefully i will find something.

just wanna update to say i

just wanna update to say i sadly dont know where to go with my issue at this point, since i dont have any info from the error message that pops up... so ill be randomly messing around for a bit but i am unsure how easy itll be for me to figure this out on my own lol.
