Advice On Making More Connections?

I'm aware this has been talked about before so please no one come at me. I'm not trying to start drama. I'm far too sick and far too tired to argue with anyone.

I've been in and out of TEF for about seven years. Never have had many connections, though not for not trying... Though I now have two friends here who I speak to almost every day and cherish dearly, I have found it excessively difficult to actually get any form of attention on TEF.

I've posted before in the Discord saying like "hey! I need more friends! I'd love to talk, plot, etc! :)" And got exactly one reply to that.
I comment on as many bios as I can.
I post my drawings, funny memes, plotting things, and just generally try very very hard to get attention.
I am not good at CSS, and I do not have the funds to pay someone to do it for me.
I do generally believe my character designs/personalities are intriguing, though maybe I'm wrong.
I'm honestly lucky if I get 5 seperate responses to a character bio.

Perhaps this sounds needy and desperate. But I'm honestly just looking to see if anyone can tell me what I'm doing wrong, or if there's something I'm not doing. I adore this game with all my heart but the sheer lack of being noticed and being blatantly ignored can certainly wear on a person.

hey! i can't say much about

hey!
i can't say much about ooc connections but as for ic action, it seems like most people respond to high activity (in the forest/game primarily) and ingame interaction.

all i can really say with any confidence is throwing your character at other characters consistently ingame, and starting RPs gets results. ic activity usually leads to casual ooc talk too. i think this is the most preferred way for a lot of people!?! in my experience. a lot of people are shy and prefer just starting with IC/forest/character interaction as a low stress, low pressure starter.

i thhhiink most people comment on the bios of characters from people they already know (and have probably spoken about that character with), or characters that are interacting/have interacted with their own character ingame..

if you're doing all that consistently then i can't say i'd have any other ideas 3:

on fancy bios- i've seen characters without CSS and only with a picto page for info do well action and rp wise, so i wouldn't worry about that if i were you

I have to agree with Qanat.

I have to agree with Qanat. The best way to go about it is to approach other characters you're interested in yours getting to know, adding that player to discord and sending a post (or posting on their bio). It's what's worked for me a lot - people who I talk to most consistently from TEF are people who've actually approached ME for RP at random, and vice versa. It can be a bit intimidating to do so, especially with players you sort of see all the time that seem... popular? But it's worth doing, I promise.

In fact, I've been meaning to throw Pagan at Altair for a while but they're never quite on at the same time. I'll keep my eyes open for you!

Here are some character things too that may or may not spark plot ideas:

1. Pagan has a lot going on with another plot she's involved in, and looks for moments of reprieve because of it. She also has the ability to connect other people to the spirit world for varying periods of time as needed.

2. Vidal. Young exorcist in training. Eats demonic spirits that then live inside of him. Cowboy. Lover of frogs and reptiles. Young adult but still learning and growing as a person. Hates/is terrified of most wolves/wolf-like creatures.

3. Poe. Jackalope girl in first. Travels to the forest when there are raids going on in the city where she's from. Performs illegal magic via enchanted tattoos. Badass, super tsundere.

Good luck, dear!

Going to put another vote

Going to put another vote towards starting with in-game interactions. It's an easy way to build common ground with other members here.
Consistency is also important - if you want to interact with someone, don't just reach out once and wait for them to reciprocate (unless they indicate they don't want the interactions, of course). You don't generally make long-term friends with the guy behind you that one day in the coffee line, but the cashier you see every day will learn to recognize you as a regular and will be warmer and friendlier.

Some things also depend on time zones and the ebb/flow of site/game activity. You might try coming around at different times to see if you catch more or different people.

I'm not in the Forest a whole lot, but if you happen upon any of my crew feel free to say hello. Most of my characters are a bit awkward but generally accepting and warm up quickly.

PS - No CSS is the new fancy CSS, and there are lots of free templates around

I'm gonna talk about my own

I'm gonna talk about my own perspective here so that it will perhaps help you a little more to understand.

As it has been explained above, some players are too shy to reach out first and will use IC interaction as a way to start with less stress. This is my case. I'm also very anxious about approaching people, which is why I would rather throw my characters in the game and then wait for someone to approach us. The problem with that, however, is that there are players who will try to interact with you, but if you're not looking at your screen at that moment and thus cannot respond immediately, they will leave. Just the idea that some may have tried to interact with my characters when I was not there to see it and then left due to lack of immediate response from my part, is quite frustrating. So if you really want some IC interaction that can potentially lead to a new bond with another person, I suggest that you either contact the other person via Discord directly, or have your character sit with theirs if they don't respond immediately, so that once they're back from AFK or stop their activities to check the game's tab, they will make their character stand up and greet yours. And if they don't want interaction, they will shake their head. If not much interaction is going on, then you should persevere by having your character interact with theirs again the next times they are online, or try to make a plot with them.

I also try to approach others myself, but it's quite rare as it takes a lot of courage for me to do that if I don't know the player very well. I'm working on it, though.

That said, if you want to interact with my characters, I'm always open for that. I'm about to take a break from TEF, but if you don't mind purely textual roleplay, then you can always poke me on Discord. Mine is Anaïs#6888. Doesn't have to be a long RP with each reply filled with a ton of details and description if you don't want to, by the way.
